SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team fell 80-57 Saturday afternoon in an exhibition contest against Drury University.
Shad Kimble led the Owls with 14 points.
Jason Walker added 8 points and
Makenzie Fessler followed with 7.
The Owls return to action Monday, Nov. 19
th as they face Lincoln College (Ill.). Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Anderson Arena.
Game Flow
The Panthers were the first to get on the board when John Williams connected for a two-point bucket. WWU quickly responded with a two-point basket of their own coming from
Codi Whitlock.
6-minutes into the game, William Woods took a 5-4 lead over Drury when
Brian Enriquez knocked down a three pointer. DU would quickly take the lead back when Julius Walker found Williams on the break and put Drury ahead 6-5.
William Woods played hard in the opening minutes of the game. But the Panthers scored eight straight points and pushed their lead to 21-10.
With 9:32 remaining, the Owls were finally able to slow down Drury with a three-point basket from Kimble. But it would not be enough to slow Drury down, as they increased their lead to 26-15.
The Panthers continued their run going up 20 points with 2-minutes remaining in the half.
WWU went on to score three more times but could not put a dent in the DU lead and walked into halftime down 49-26.
Returning from halftime, WWU's Fessler hit a three-pointer and put the Owls down 56-37. 2-minutes later the Panthers responded with a three of their own from Isaac Johnson and pushed their lead to 61-37. But the William Woods returned the favor with another three-pointer coming from Kimble.
Midway through the second half, The Owls found themselves down 71-49.
At the 4:51 mark,
Jessie Frost-Dixon hit a mid-range jumper and put the Owls behind 73-52.
Shortly after the William Woods jumper, Cam Potts found Allen Billinger for a three-point basket and gave Drury a 76-52 lead.
WWU went on the score five more points but it was little to late as time ran out and they would fall to the Panthers 80-57.
