Women's Basketball Hosts Missouri Valley

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team returns to action Wednesday, November 7th as they host the Missouri Valley College Vikings. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Anderson Arena.
 
About Missouri Valley
The Vikings enter the contest after 0-2 start to their 2018-19 season. They opened their season November 1st when they were defeated by St. Louis College of Pharmacy 65-64.  Their second game of the season, Missouri Valley faced No. 4 Columbia when they were defeated 48-44 on November 3rd.
 
This season Missouri Valley returns Heart of America Honorable Mention Leba Korovou, Hilma Mededovic and Shanelle Tolley.
 
Last season, Korovou appeared in 28 games for the Vikings. She averaged 5.5ppg and 5rebs.  Leba shot 67% from the field and made 75% of her shots at the free-throw line.
 
Mededovic enters her senior season after coming off a strong junior campaign. She averaged 13ppg and 10rebs. Hilma shot 57% from the field and made half of her free-throw attempts. Mededovic currently ranks third overall in the nation for defensive rebounds per game (9).
 
Shanelle Tolley enters her second season of collegiate sports. She averaged 8.3ppg and shot 43% from the field. She scored a season high 15 points last season.
 
Last time against the Vikings
Last year the Owls opened their 2017-2018 season against Missouri Valley. William Woods was defeated 86-65. Peyton Greenlee led WWU with 14pts, Kaycee Gerald followed with 13pts and 6ast. Bailey Rollins chipped in 10pts and made both of her free-throw attempts.
 
All-time against Missouri Valley
The first time the Owls met the Vikings was on December 10, 1984 when WWU defeated Missouri Valley 75-52. Since then they have faced each other 36 times in which William Woods holds a 25-11 series lead.
 
The Owls
WWU enters the contest coming of a 2-0 starts to their 2018-19 season. In their season opener they defeated Lincoln College (Ill.) 76-52. On November 3rd, the Owls got their second win of the season over Cardinal Stritch University defeating the Stritch Wolves 59-56.
 
Hot Starts
So far this season Peyton Greenlee and Kaycee Gerald have been leading the way for the Owls.  In the first game of the season, Greenlee scored 25pts and knocked down five three-pointers. She currently ranks 1st overall in the nation in free throw percentage as she has made all of her attempts.
 
Gerald is currently WWU's second leading scoring averaging 13ppgs. She is also averaging 95.rebs and 4.5asts. She grabbed a season high 11rebs in their win over Cardinal Stritch. Kaycee holds two Top 25 rankings. She ranks 19th overall in total rebounds per game (9.5) and 21st overall in defensive rebounds per game (6).
 
A win over the Vikings will give the Owls their second straight win in Anderson Arena and their third win of the season.
