Strong Third Quarter Start Pushes WWU over NCAA Greenville

GREENVILLE, Ill. – A strong third quarter start pushed the William Woods University Owls to a win over NCAA Greenville University in their first game back from the holiday break. The 77-62 win brings the Owls to 8-4 on the season.
 
The win over Greenville closed out their non-conference portion of their schedule. Next up for the Owls is an away conference contest at No. 19 Lyon College on Thursday, January 3, at 5:30 p.m.
 
Game Flow 
The game started out close as both teams battled to take hold of the lead. Just over midway through the first quarter, GU began a 6-0 run to double the Owls score with 2:55 on the clock, 12-6. 

A three from Jazlyn Drake followed by a two-pointer from Peyton Greenlee a minute later put the Owls back within one with 1:32 on the clock, 12-11. 
 
Ashleigh Frampton put in a bucket with :08 on the clock to grab the Owl's first lead in over six minutes before heading into the second quarter, 15-14.
 
Frampton scored the first five points of the second quarter to give the Owls a six-point lead just over a minute in, 20-14. 
 
The Owls managed to hold the lead despite GU cutting the game to one twice. With 2:57 left in the half, GU tied the game.
 
The Owls maintained possession of the lead both times GU tied it up, but with 12 seconds on the clock, GU scored to take a one-point lead heading into half, 37-36.
 
The Owls came out of halftime and dominated a 14-0 run over the first five minutes of the quarter. GU broke their silence just over halfway through the quarter.
 
GU brought the game back to single digits, but two good free throws from Rylie Cox and a bucket from Drake put the Owls up by 11 heading into the final quarter, 61-50. 
 
The Owls maintained a double-digit lead throughout most of the final quarter while reaching a game-high 15-point lead with 3:07 left to play, 73-58.
 
In the final minute of the game, Drake scored two on a fast break layup and Tori Nesslage scored a bucket to win it, 77-62.
