FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team was defeated by Williams Baptist College, 77-62, in the American Midwest Conference Game of the Week on Thursday evening at Anderson Arena.
The Owls were led by 22 points by senior
Darrien Dickey.
DaShaun Stark scored 13 in the contest and
Jason Walker rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points. WWU shot 37 percent from the floor and were 1-for-16 on three-pointers in the contest.
WWU returns to action on Saturday, February 3 when they host Freed-Hardeman University in AMC action. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
Game Flow
The Eagles came out on fire as they scored the first nine points of the contest over the first two and a half minutes. After the run,
Darrien Dickey scored the next four points, the first WWU bucket came with 16:17 left in the half.
Williams Baptist came back and stretched its lead to nine points, 18-9, after a Kendall Ivy basket in the paint. WWU and Williams Baptist traded hoops and trailing by nine, 22-13, WWU slowly started clawing back into the contest. WWU got the lead down to six, 22-16, after a three-point play by
Jason Walker.
However, after the basket, Williams Baptist extended its lead to 17 points, 35-18, after a bucket by Ivy. The Owls tried to comeback but could only get as close as 14 in the first half and trailed by 19, 44-25, at halftime.
Over the first minute and half of the second half, WWU held the Eagles scoreless and scored the fixt six points trimming the Eagles lead down to 13, 44-31, after a
DaShaun Stark jumper. WWU continued to keep the game close and trimmed the game down to 11, 51-40, after Stark hit a pair of free throws with 13:32 left.
Williams Baptist grew the lead back to 17 points, 57-40, before the Owls started chipping away at the lead. The Owls went on a 9-0 run over a five-minute span and trimmed the Eagles lead to eight, 57-49, with 7:20 left in the game.
Two minutes later, Walker hit a layup putting the Owls down six, 61-55. This would be as close as the Owls would get in the contest as the Eagles grew the lead back to double-figures. William Woods was defeated 77-62 by Williams Baptist in the AMC Game of the Week.
