JOPLIN, Mo. - The William Woods University baseball team went 1-1 on the final day of the Joplin Tournament. WWU opened the day with a 11-5 loss to Doane College before bouncing back and defeating Graceland University, 6-0.
The Owls return to action on Friday, February 23rd when they travel to Sauget, Illinois to face Lindenwood University – Belleville. This will be the Owls AMC opener. First-pitch is set for 4 p.m.

The Owls and the Tigers were scoreless until the top of the second when the Tigers started out with a single and then a homerun by And Theiler putting Doane ahead 2-0.
The Owls answered back in the bottom of the third after
Glen DesBouillons added a homerun of his own, cutting the lead down to one, 2-1.
The top of the fifth would put the Owls in a six-run deficit after the Tigers were able to string together a single be Germansky, a hit by pitch by Guzman, and double by Blaine, scoring three, and putting the Owls down 5-1. A homerun by Trent Jeary would extend the Tigers lead by another two runs, 7-1.
The Tigers pounced again in the top of the sixth when they added another four runs to put the score at an 11-1 lead.
The Owls were able to add one run in the bottom of the sixth when
Nolan Aherin and
Zach Smith both hit doubles and Aherin scored, putting the Owls down, 11-2. The Owls tried once more in the bottom of the seventh when Smith and
Brian Granton both reached on a walk and DesBouillons came up and hit a three-run homerun. The Owls were able to cut the Tiger lead to six, but the Owls were unfortunately out of time, and were defeated in game one, 11-5.

Game Flow
William Woods and Graceland had opportunities to score early in the contest but neither team got a run across the plate until the fourth inning. In the fourth, WWU scored two runs. After
Nolan Aherin reached on a walk, he came into score on a
Tyler Bracht double. Bracht scored when
Frankie Valle reached on an error and WWU lead 2-0.
Graceland looked to get something going in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Gabriel Melendez doubled and then Elijah Vazquez was hit by a pitch putting two runners on. Melendez got picked off second and then
Dany Paradis-Giroux struck out Zac Schueller ending the inning.
In the fifth inning, the Owls scored its third run of the contest.
Marquise Doherty reached on a walk and stole second base. He moved to third on a
Brian Granton single, putting runners on the corners for the Owls. Doherty came into score on a
Tyler Cunningham single putting the Owls ahead, 3-0.
In the top of the sixth inning, WWU extended its lead to 6-0.
Tyler Bracht singled and scored on a
Frankie Valle triple. After an out, Doherty tripled scoring Valle putting WWU ahead 5-0. Doherty scored on a
Josh Nicol single and WWU lead 6-0.
Paradis-Giroux gave up one hit in the bottom of the sixth, a leadoff double, but left him stranded on the bases.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Graceland was retired in order and WWU came away with a 6-0 victory.
