Women’s Basketball Beats Pharmacy on Senior Day

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team used a strong fourth quarter on its way to a 62-56 victory over the Eutectics of St. Louis College of Pharmacy, on Thursday night in American Midwest Conference action.
 
The Owls, who honored its two seniors after the contest, were led by Kaycee Gerald with 18 points. Seniors Jasmine Brown and Hannah Bland scored 15 and 12 points respectfully. Lexy Ganaway came off the bench and scored 10 points. WWU shot 31.8 percent from the floor.
 
The Owls travel to Hannibal, Missouri to face the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University to wrap up their regular season play on Saturday, February 24. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
 
Game Flow

The Owls offense got off to a slow start on senior night as WWU only scored six points in the first quarter. Trailing 7-3, WWU got its first bucket with 6:20 left in the quarter when Kaycee Gerald hit a jumper putting the Owls down two. That would be the only field goal the Owls would get in the first quarter as they shot 1-for-16 from the floor and trailed 15-6 after one.
 
Pharmacy stretched its lead to 12, 18-6, opening the second quarter when Eledria Franklin hit a three pointer. The Owls continued to battle and trimmed the lead down to six, 18-12, after a Tori Nesslage free throw. Pharmacy slowly grew the lead back to nine, 27-18, after a Franklin three pointer with 2:50 left in the half. Jasmine Brown hit a jumper in the paint and the Owls trailed 27-20, with 2:08 left in the half , the Owls would not score again and trailed 29-20 at halftime.
 
The Eutectics opened the third quarter by growing its lead back to 12, 34-22, after a Morgan Rose jumper in the paint. WWU followed by going on a 7-0 run that was capped by a Brown layup putting the Owls down three, 34-31. Again, the Eutectics grew the lead back to ten points before the Owls cut the lead back to five, 41-36, after a Lexy Ganaway three-pointer. Pharmacy hit one more field goal and led by seven, 43-36, heading to the final quarter of play.
 
Opening the fourth quarter, Ganaway hit another three pointer and the Owls trailed by four, 43-39. WWUs shooting started to heat up and less than four minutes into the quarter, the Owls tied the game at 46-46 after a Hannah Bland three. On the next trip down, Ganaway hit another three and the Owls took a three-point lead.
 
Bland put the Owls head by five, 51-46, after a layup in the paint. Pharmacy cut the Owls lead down to two points multiple times the rest of the contest and a three by Franklin cut the Owls lead down to two, 56-54, with 2:15 left. WWU only allowed the Eutectics to score two more points during the contest and WWU came away with a 62-56 victory.
