Softball Sweeps St. Louis Pharmacy

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team stretched its winning steak to four games with a sweep of St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Friday afternoon. The Owls took game one, 16-2, and came away with game two, 11-4.
 
Lindy Wilson sparked the Owls offense in the two games as she was five-for-seven in the double header. She had three extra base hits and drove in three runs. Lindsay Van Tress led the Owls with four RBIs in the doubleheader. Eleven different Owls had a hit in on the day.
 
The Owls return to action on Saturday, March 24th when they host Lindenwood University – Belleville at Owl Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
 
Game One
Game Flow

The Owls scored right out the gate in the top of the first when Emma Walker hit a leadoff triple and later scored on a wild pitch, 1-0. Dacrie Depping, Emily Robinett, and Alli Massey reached on a walk but not before Depping and Robinett would score from wild pitches, putting the Owls ahead 3-0. Amanda Bouchey hit a single that scored Massey extending the Owls lead to 4-0.
 
The Eutectics came up in the bottom of the first and cut the Owls lead down to two, 4-2. In the bottom of the first inning, Allison Dewald singled home one and Laruen Wright came to score on a sacrifice fly by Keelyn Stein for the second run of the inning.
 
The top of the second inning is when the Owls bats were hot, extending their lead as they scored eight runs.  Lindy Wilson hit a leadoff double and was later scored by Depping after she hit a single. Robinett hit a single and advanced Depping to third base. After Massey lined one back at the pitcher, the bases were juiced for the Owls. A single by Devyn Burton allowed Depping to score. Another single by Amanda Bouchey scored two and an error would allow Linsday Van Tress to reach base and scored another run. Lindy Wilson came up again to smack a triple to score two and a single by Emma Walker scored Wilson and that would end the hit parade from the Owls. 
 
The Owls scored one in the top of the third. The Owls had back-to-back-to-back singles loading the bases before Van Tress hit a sacrifice fly putting the Owls ahead, 13-2.
 
WWU added three more in the top of the fifth inning when Burton hit a leadoff double and would later score. Van Tress came up two batters later and hit a triple and a double by Jessica Bradfisch would allow Van Tress to cross the plate. A single by Depping allowed Bradfisch to score, extending the lead 16-2.
 
Allison Waskow kept the Eutectics bats quiet in the fifth inning as she got three straight ground outs ending the game. WWU came away with a 16-2 victory over St. Louis Pharmacy.

Game Two
Game Flow

The Owls took the lead by one in the top of the first when Lindy Wilson reached on a walk and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Robinett putting the Owls ahead 1-0.
 
The Eutectics quickly answered back when Lauren Wright smacked a homerun tying the game, 1-1.
 
The Owls added another run in the top of the second when Van Tress reached on an error and later scored on a passed ball putting the Owls ahead 2-1.
 
The Owls were able to extend their lead in the top of the third when they scored two, 4-1. With two on, Robinett doubled down the left field line putting scoring Wilson. Burton added the second run of the inning when she hit a sacrifice fly scoring Depping and WWU led 4-1.
 
The Eutectics added another run in the bottom of the third, not allowing the Owls to run too far ahead, 4-2. With the bases loaded, Dewald scored one when she reached on a fielder's choice. That would be all they would get as they left a runner stranded on third base.
 
The Owls were able to put another run on the board in the top of the fourth when Emma Walker hit a leadoff triple and Wilson reached on a walk. Depping grounded out but Walker came into score, extending the lead to three, 5-2.
 
By the bottom of the fifth, the Eutectics cut the Owls lead down to one, 5-4 after stringing hits together to get around Owls defense. In the fourth inning, Kirk doubled to right-center scoring the third run for Pharmacy. The fourth run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Stein hit an RBI single.
 
It was not until the top of the sixth when the Owls offense from the first game made an appearance. Robinett reached on a hit by pitch and Massey reached on a single. Robinett ended up scoring after passed balls and wild pitches by the Eutectics. After an error by the Eutectics defense, Massey also scored. Bri Devellano hit a single that would score Van Tress and a double by Wilson scored Devellano, putting the Owls ahead 9-4.
 
The Owls scored two more runs in the top of the seventh. Robinett singled and came around to score on a Van Tress triple. Devellano singled to right field scoring Van Tress and WWU lead 11-4.
 
The Eutectics had a rally going in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, Lauren Wright and Amber Walsh reached base and advanced a base on a wild pitch. However, Madison Aushfal settled down and got the next two hitters out and WWU came away with a 11-4 win.
