BATESVILLE, Ark. – The William Woods University Baseball team suffered a 10-8 extra inning loss to No. 20 Lyon College on Saturday afternoon to close out the three-game set.
 
Leading the Owls in the contest was Marquise Doherty, Connor Poulson and Zach Smith, each of who had three hits in the contest. Doherty drove in a team high four runs for the Owls. WWU had seven players pick up at least one hit. WWU had 15 hits in the contest. The loss for the Owls is its fifth straight loss.
 
WWU returns to action on Tuesday, April 3rd when they host Columbia College in AMC action. The doubleheader is set to start at 4 p.m.
 
Game Flow
After a scoreless first inning, the Owls scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning. After two innings of play the Owls led 5-0. The Scots answered back in the top of the third inning by scoring four runs and cutting the Owls lead down to one, 5-4.
 
Lyon came back in the contest and scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning and lead 8-5 heading to the bottom of the frame. In the bottom of the fourth, the Owls scored one trimming the lead to 8-6. After two more scoreless innings, the Owls scored one run in the bottom of the eighth inning and trailed 8-7.
 
WWU did not allow the Scots to grow its lead in the top of the ninth inning and the Owls needed one run to tie and two runs to win. WWU got one run in the ninth forcing the game to extra innings tied at 8-8.
 
After a scoreless tenth, the Scots answered with two in the 11th inning taking a 10-8 lead. WWU did not score a run in the 11th and were defeated 10-8.
 
On the day, Marquise Doherty went 3-for-6 with four RBIs. He hit one home run in the contest. Tyler Cunningham added another home run and drove in two runs for the Owls. Freshman Connor Poulson had three hits to lead the Owls. Frankie Valle drove in two runs on two hits.
