FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University offensive attack lead the Owls to a doubleheader sweep of Park University in American Midwest Conference action. WWU took game one, 12-9, before winning game two, 15-11.

The Owls scored 27 runs in the doubleheader, collected 27 hits and drove in 24 runs. WWU had a .403 batting average in the doubleheader with nine extra base hits.

The Owls close out the three-game set with the Pirates tomorrow, April 13th with a single nine-inning contest. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.

Game One
Game Flow
After a scoreless top of the first inning, the Owls got the offense clicking in the bottom of the first.
Frankie Valle led the inning with a triple to deep right-center. After
Patrick Dillon reached on a walk, the Owls had runners on the corners. The Owls pulled off a double steal and Valle scored putting the Owls ahead, 1-0.

William Woods continued to extend its lead in the bottom of the second inning, when they plated six runs on five hits. The Owls offense clicked with two outs in the inning as
Josh Nicol got the Owls started.
Jordan Smith reached on a walk.
Tyler Bracht singled scoring one. Valle followed with an RBI double, which scored two. Aherin followed with a double scoring one.
Tyler Cunningham had a two-run RBI double in the inning and after two innings, WWU led 7-0.

Taran Oulton continued to cruise on the mound as he retired the Pirates in order in the top of the third. Once the Owls got to the plate in the bottom of the inning, they continued to grow its lead. WWU scored five runs in the contest with three hits. In the inning, Bracht, and Aherin had an RBI hit and Dillon had a sacrifice fly. After three innings, WWU lead 12-0.

Oulton continued to dominate until the top of the fifth. Michael Valdivia tripled to lead off the inning for the Pirates. Austin Giannola grounded out which scored the first run of the game for the Pirates.

After the Owls scored its 12th run of the game, WWUs offense went quiet and the Pirates offense heated up. The Pirates came back and scored eight runs on seven hits in the frame cutting the Owls lead down to three, 12-9.

WWU could not get anything going in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Pirates came up to bat in the top of the seventh. Owls reliever,
Jeremy Hidalgo, who entered in the sixth, came away with three straight outs and WWU came away with a 12-9 victory over the Pirates.

The Pirates bats came out on fire in the second contest. Park scored five runs in the contest as they had four hits in the inning. In the frame, Michael Valdivia hit a three-run home run putting the ahead 5-0 over the Owls.

William Woods came back and answered with six runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Nolan Aherin came up big as he had a two-run double to get the Owls on the board.
Tyler Cunningham followed with a triple to right field and the Owls trailed 5-3.
Marquise Doherty singled up the middle scoring one, and WWU trailed 5-4. Later in the inning, the Owls scored two more and WWU lead 6-5 after the first inning.

After a scoreless second and third inning, the Pirates regained the lead. After a leadoff walk to Will Long, Tim Schaaremann hit a two-run home run and the Owls trailed 7-6. The Pirates were not done scoring as they added one more run in the inning and lead the Owls 8-6.

WWU looked to answer back in the bottom of the fourth inning. Aherin, Cunningham reached on a walk putting two on. Doherty was hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases with no outs for the Owls. Nicol singled scoring one for the Owls. WWU continued to add runs as they took advantage of Pirates errors and scored six runs and WWU lead, 12-8, after four innings of play.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Pirates trimmed the Owls lead down to three. Valdivia reached on an error and came around to score on a single by Treston Horton.

Park continued to chip away at the Owls lead as David Paffenroth came up in the top of the eighth and hit a solo home run putting the Owls lead down to two, 12-10. After the home run, Owls pitcher
Adam Grunden settled back down and struck out the next three batters ending the inning.

WWU looked to get another run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Doherty led off the inning with a leadoff double down the left field line. He advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Josh Nicol.
Patrick Dillon followed with a walk putting runners on the corners. Dillon then stole second base putting two runners in scorner position. The Owls loaded the bases when
Glen DesBouillons reached on a walk. The Owls grew the lead to five runs, after scoring three in the inning. Heading to the top of the ninth, WWU led 15-10.

Grunden came back out to the mound in the top of the ninth inning looking to close out the game against the Pirates. Connor Whitney reached on an Owls error before he came into score on a Nico Codemo singled putting the Pirates down four, 15-11. Hidaglo entered the game in relief of Grunden and retired the next three hitters for Park, and WWU came away with a 15-11 victory.Â
