FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's tennis team, sponsored by Fulton Medical Center, got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon with an 8-1 victory over Missouri Valley College.
 
The Owls improve to 8-6 on the season with the victory. Missouri Valley is receiving votes in the latest edition of the NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll. Full results can be found below.
 
WWU game out and took all three doubles points against the Vikings. 
Javier Callejo and 
Christopher Vleeming Ortiz won 8-4, in No. 1 doubles. The Owls No. 2 doubles team of 
Benjamin Tzschentke and 
Oscar Barreiro and the team of No. 3 team of 
Christian Barbieri and 
Stefan Simic, each won 8-5, putting the Owls ahead 3-0.
 
WWU clinched the match early in singles action when 
Jesus Amezcua won in No. 4 singles and 
Christian Barbieri won in No. 1 singles as their opponents retired.
 
The Owls continued to pull away from the Vikings as 
Christopher Vleeming Ortiz won, 6-2, 6-1 in No. 3 singles. 
Oscar Barreiro came away with a win for the Owls 6-1, 6-0. The last point for the Owls came in No. 5 singles when 
Nathan Cooke defeated Guilherme Gumiero, 6-1, 6-2.
 
The only match the Owls dropped was No. 6 singles.
 
WWU returns to action on Wednesday, April 18th when they host Lindenwood University-Belleville at the Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex.
