BATESVILLE, Ark. – The William Woods University softball team dropped a pair of American Midwest Conference contests on Sunday afternoon to Lyon College. The Owls dropped game one, 5-1, before falling 7-5 in game two.

The Owls scored six runs in the doubleheader while collecting 18 hits.
Alli Massey and
Ari Arnold led the Owls with four hits in the game. Massey and Arnold drove home five of the six runs for the Owls. WWU's pitching staff recorded 13 strikeouts in the doubleheader against Lyon.

The Owls return to action on Wednesday, April 18th when they host Lindenwood University-Belleville at Owl Field. First-pitch is set for 2 p.m.

Game One

The Owls struck first in the top of the first inning.
Ari Arnold reached on an error and a sacrifice bunt advanced her to second base. After a pop out for Owls second out,
Alli Massey singled up the middle scoring Arnold and putting the Owls ahead, 1-0.

Owls starter
Bre Logan came out dealing as she only allowed a single in the bottom of the first inning. However, Logan ran into trouble in the bottom of the second inning. The Scots started with a walk and hit by pitch, which put two runners on. After a sac bunt, the Scots drew a walk to load the bases. Its first run came when Kacy Perkins drew a walk, which scored one.

Rachel Normal singled to short which scored the Scots second run. Cheyenne Black followed back with a two run RBI single. The Scots scored one more in the inning and led 5-1 after two innings of play.

WWU continued to battle at the plate and
Ari Arnold singled with one out to get the Owls starter. After a pop out,
Emily Robinett singled putting two on the Owls. However, they two runners would be left stranded.

Madison Ausfahl came in out of bullpen in the second inning and after she came in, the Scots struggled getting the bats going. She only mustered one hit in the third inning. She sat down Lyon in order. The only hit they got off Ausfahl was in the third inning. Ausfahl recorded eight strikeouts in four and two thirds innings of relief.

The Owls bats went quiet until the top of the seventh inning. Trailing by four, the Owls were up to its final outs. After the first two hitters were retired,
Celeste Sermeno singled.
Madison Ausfahl followed with a single putting two Owls on for the Owls. However, they would be left stranded and the Owls would fall, 5-1.

The Owls got off to a fast start in game two. With
Ari Arnold on second base, and two outs,
Alli Massey came up to bat and hit a single up the middle scoring Arnold putting the Owls ahead, 1-0. WWU added to its lead in the top of the second inning.

With one on and two outs,
Jessica Bradfisch walked putting two on base. Arnold came up to the plate and hit a double to deep right center scoring Wilson and Bradfisch putting the Owls ahead, 3-0.

The Scots bats came to life in the bottom of the second inning. Lyon scored six runs on four hits and took advantage of one Owls error taking a 6-3 lead over William Woods.

WWU trimmed the lead down to two, 6-4, in the top of the third inning. With two outs and
Alli Massey on first,
Lindsay Van Tress singled putting two on.
Lindy Wilson followed with a single to center field loading the bases.
Bri Devellano singled scoring one for the Owls. WWU left the bases loaded.

The game remained 6-4 with Lyon leading until the bottom of the fifth inning. The Owls got two outs opening the fifth inning, however, they ran into trouble after that. Lyon had three straight singles and the third score a run putting the Scots ahead, 7-4.

The Owls looked to answer back in the top of the sixth inning.
Emma Walker doubled, and
Emily Robinett followed with a single putting runners on the corners. Massey reached on a Scott error, which scored Walker putting the Owls down, 7-5.
Devyn Burton reached on an error and the Owls had the bases laded with one out. However, the Owls could not get another run across the plate and trailed 7-5 heading to the bottom of the sixth.

The Scots tried to get an insurance run across the plate, but the Owls held steady and kept the Scots and bay and trailed 7-5 heading to the final at-bats.

In the seventh inning, the Owls threated to get tie the game.
Dacrie Depping pinched hit for the Owls and reached on an error.
Madison Ausfahl followed with a single. After a sacrifice bunt put the tying run on second base, the next two Owls were retired and the Owls dropped game two, 7-5.
