FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team dropped the third game of the three-game set to the visiting Harris-Stowe State University Hornets on Saturday afternoon at Owl Field. The Hornets took the third game 4-2 over the Owls.

The Owls were outhit 12-4 in the game. WWU was led at the plate by
Nolan Aherin, who had two of the four hits for the Owls.
Glen DesBouillons collected both RBIs for the Owls.

The Owls return to action on Friday, April 27th when they travel to St. Louis Missouri to face Missouri Baptist University in an AMC doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. Â

Game Flow
Harris-Stowe came out swinging in the top of the first off Owls starter
Ryan Furtney. Eddie McDaniels led off the game with a double to right center. Kenny Lara followed with a double putting runners on second and third. After a hit by pitch, the Hornets had the bases loaded with no outs. Leobardo Saldivar Jr. then hit a sacrifice fly scoring one for the Hornets. Furtney got Ty Haston to ground into an inning ending double play and the Owls trailed 1-0.

The Hornets extended its lead to 3-0 in the top of the third inning. Lara led off wit ha double and Cole Danielson followed with a double that scored Lara. Danielson came into score on a Saldivar Jr. single and the Hornets led 3-0.

Josh Nicol picked up the first hit for the Owls in the bottom of the third inning but that would be all the Owls would get in the inning as they trailed 3-0 after three innings of play.

HSSU extended its lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning. Kendall Powell singled off Furtney to get the inning started. After a pitching change, the Owls got two straight outs before Lara was hit by a pitch. Danielson followed with a single scoring Powell to grow the Hornets lead.

The Owls picked up its second hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, Aherin singled through the hole at second. However, he was stranded on first as the next two Owls were retired.

The Owls got its first run of the game across the plate in the bottom of the fifth.
Zach Smith drew a walk to get the inning started. He went to second on a ground out, and to third on a passed ball. Smith scored on a
Glen DesBouillons ground out.

WWU looked to keep the offensive attack going in the bottom of the sixth. With one out,
Brian Granton and Aherin singled getting the Owls started.
Tyler Cunningham drew a walk, which loaded the bases. However, the Owls could not get a run across as they next hitter grounded into a double play ending the inning.

Coming out of the bull pen for the Owls,
Adam Grunden kept the bats quiet for the Hornets as he pitched the final six innings and only allowed the Hornets five hits and did not allow a run.

In the seventh inning, the Owls scored its second run. Z. Smith reached on a Hornets error. He went to second on a wild pitch and to third on another Hornets error. DesBouillons drove him home with another ground out to second base and the Owls trailed 4-2.

The Owls could not get anything going in the eighth or ninth inning and the Owls would fall 4-2 to the Hornets in the final game of the series.
