SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The William Woods University women's tennis team, sponsored by Fulton Medical Center, was defeated by NCAA Division I Missouri State University, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon.

Playing by the NCAA Division I rule, the winner of the two of the three doubles matches receive a point the Owls dropped No. 1 doubles, 6-0. The Owls No. 3 doubles team of Chelsea Steward and Felicia Cesar were defeated 6-4. Second doubles were not finished.
 
In singles action, the Owls could not get anything going as they dropped all six singles matches. Zlata Shuraeva battled in the second set and was defeated 6-2, 7-5.
 
Julia Mulder dropped No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-3 to Abby Belote. Felicia Cesar was defeated 6-3, 6-1 in No. 5 singles. Ana Zavala lost No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Julia Perez Wienese lost 6-1, 6-2, in No. 3 singles. Karyna Sagalai was defeated 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 singles.
 
The Owls return to action on Friday, April 27th when they open play at the American Midwest Conference/Heart of American Unaffiliated group tournament. The winner of the tournament will advance to the NAIA National Championship with an automatic berth.
