ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University men's tennis team, sponsored by Fulton Medical Center, came away with two victories to advance to the AMC/Heart of America Unaffiliated Group Tournament on Friday.
 
The Owls defeated the Eutectics of St. Louis College of Pharmacy 6-0 in the quarterfinals before beating the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University, 5-0, in the Semifinals. This is the second straight season the Owls have advanced to the Championship match.
 
The Owls will face the winner of the Lindenwood-Bellville and Missouri Valley tomorrow, April 28th in the AMC/Heart of America Tournament Championship Match. The match is set to start at 12 p.m. at Tower Grove Park.
 
WWU vs. Pharmacy
The Owls opened the tournament with a quick 6-0 victory over St. Louis College of Pharmacy. The Owls took all three doubles matches 8-0. Stefan Simic and Jesus Amezcua won in No. 1 doubles. Nathan Cooke and Benjamin Tzschentke took NO. 2 doubles and Oscar Donker and Jack Campbell took No. 3 doubles.
 
William Woods Simic won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 5 singles over Mensur Koso. WWU clinched the match when Benjamin Tzschentke won 6-0, 6-1 in No. 3 singles and Nathan Cooke won 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 singles, advancing the semifinals.

WWU vs. Missouri Baptist
The Owls jumped out to a fast lead in doubles action as the Oscar Barreiro and Benjamin Tzschentke won no. 3 doubles 8-1. WWU's No. 1 doubles team of Javier Callejo and Christopher Vleeming Ortiz won 8-3 putting the Owls ahead, 2-0. Stefan Simic and Jesus Amezcua came away with an 8-5 victory in No. 2 doubles.
 
Needing only two more points to clinch the match, the Owls No. 1 and No. 2 singles players took care of business. Christopher Vleeming Ortiz came away with a straight set 6-0, 6-0 victory giving the Owls a 4-0 lead.
 
Javier Callejo, who was named AMC/Heart Group Player of the Year, clinched the match for the Owls with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 1 singles. With the win the Owls advanced to the Championship match tomorrow, April 28th.
