Men’s Soccer Falls to Culver-Stockton, 5-1

CANTON, Mo. - The William Woods University men's soccer returned to the field for the second time this season as they faced the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats. The Wildcats would eventually walk away with a 5-1 win over the Owls.
 
William Woods falls to 0-2 on the season.  Scoring the lone goal for the Owls In the contest was sophomore Darren Wilson.
 
The Owls return to action on Sunday August 26th as they host Graceland University (Iowa) in a non-conference contest. This will be the third straight year the Owls have face the Yellow Jackets. Due to a close to unplayable heat index, game time has been moved from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Firley Field.
 
Game Flow
Both teams opened the first half very aggressive. The Wildcats were the first to put points on the board with a goal coming from Javier Magallon. Magallon's goal was assisted by Agustin Mosquera.
 
Quickly after, the Owls would tie the game on a penalty kick. After the Wildcats were called for a foul in the box, the Owls Darren Wilson had a penalty kick. He found the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1.
 
With the game tied, CSC's, View Rungpao broke out for the second goal giving Culver-Stockton a 2-1 lead over William Woods. The Owls would continue to stay aggressive as Billy Nzoijybwami attempted a shot that missed wide of the goal.
 
With 20:92 remaining in the first half, Javier Magallon would tally in his second goal on the season giving CSC a 3-1 edge. The Owls would make one last push but would go into halftime trailing, 3-1.
 
Entering the second half, both teams struggled finding ways to score goals. The Owls looked to break the seal with two shots on goal coming from Billy Nzojybwami and Wessel Albers. Although the Owls offense scrambled for goals, their defense was top notch not allowing the Wildcats to advance the ball to their side.
 
The first goal of the half would not come until 10:50 remaining on the clock when Wildcats Adelio Moreira broke out for a free goal due to miscommunication from William Woods.
 
With 2:68 remaining on the game clock, Culver-Stockton's Adelio Moreira would record a wide-open goal making the score 5-1. With under a minute left in regulation the Owls would make one final push before falling short to the Wildcats.
