BELLEVUE, Neb. – The William Woods University volleyball team split its first two games of the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Tournament hosted by Bellevue Tournament.

The Owls return to action on Saturday, September 1st when they close out the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic. WWU plays University of Providence (Mont.) at 9 a.m. and Carroll College (Mont.) at 1 p.m. to close out play.

WWU vs. IU South Bend
Game Flow
The first set of the completion was very back and forth. William Woods took an early 1-0 lead on a bad set from IU-South Bend's Madison Burger. A kill from Sarah Allison would put the Titans on the board for the first time in the contest making the score 2-1. As the Titans continued to fight, and attack error from IU-South Bend and a service ace from
Remie Johnson would push the Owls lead to 7-3. Towards the end of the set both teams turned up the aggression. A
Rayleen Rivera kill would bring the set to a 20-18 WWU advantage but would shortly be cut as they Titans were able to get within one of the Owls. For the second time in the set, Johnson recorded a service ace making the score 25-21 and giving the Owls the first set. The Owls would never trial during the set.

With her team down a set, McKenzie Powell recorded a kill for IU-South Bend giving them a 1-0 start in the set. William Woods
Tory Wiley would immediately retaliate recording a kill of her own giving the Owls a 2-2 lead. The beginning of the second set favored the Titans as they were able to get an 8-6 lead over the Owls. It would not be until
Kayton Coffee's service brought the game to 10-10 tie. William Woods held on to the lead the remaining of the set. The Titans Sarah Allison had a kill that brought the score to 24-21 but a kill from
Kate Doerhoff would finalize the set ending any chances of a IU-South Bend come back.

Entering the final set of the match, William Woods got out to an early 2-0 lead. A service run for the Titans initiated 4-0 run giving them a 10-6 lead. William Woods will quickly make a turn around with a Wiley kill bringing the Owls within one of the Titans. With only few points left in the set, the Owls took full advantage. Trailing 23-19, the Owls scored the final six points of the set taking the set, 25-23. WWU had kills by Wiley and
Kira Krebill along with two aces by Rivera.Â

WWU vs. Dordt
Game Flow
In the first set, the Owls and No. 2 Dordt went back and forth. With the Defenders leading 5-4, scored slowly grew its lead to 10-5 after a kill by Julia Linbergh. WWU continued to battle and after a Rayleen River a kill, the Owls trailed by four, 12-8. Dordt grew its lead to 17-10 after an Ema Altena kill. William Woods slowly chipped away at the Defender lead, and a Rivera put the Owls down three, 20-17. That would be as close as the Owls would get in set one, before falling 25-19.

In set two, Dordt jumped to a 4-1 lead after an attack error by
Tory Wiley. WWU chipped away and the lead shrink to one, 5-4, after a Wiley kill. The Owls battled back and after scoring two straight points on a kill by
Hannah Kuehl and a Defender attack error. The Owls grabbed its first lead after a kill by Wiley, 12-11. WWU and the Defenders would go back and forth and a kill by Kuehl put the Owls ahead 19-15. However, Dort came back and took a 20-19 lead. WWU answered back and after a service error by Dordt, the Owls lead 23-22. However, No. 2 Dordt scored the final three points taking set two, 25-23.

Dordt jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in set three, after taking advantage of three errors by the Owls. The Defenders lead grew to 7-1 before the Owls scored back-to-back points. Dordt answered back and grew the lead to 13-4 after a bad set by the Owls. The closest the Owls would get in the set was eight before the Defenders scored five straight taking a 12, 22-10. The Owls continued to chip away but could not come back as Dordt took the third set, 25-17.
