Greenlee Scores 1000th Career Point in 78-46 Victory Over Harris-Stowe

St. Louis. Mo. – William Woods University captured their sixth straight victory Wednesday night as they defeated Harris-Stowe 78-46. The win over the Hornets makes Head Coach Dan Chapla the winningest coach in program history. Also making a mark in WWU athletic history, is Peyton Greenlee who has now reach 1000 career points. 
 
Greenlee led the Owls with 19 points on 6-13 shooting. She also snatched down 4 rebounds. Kasey Hazell was second in scoring with 15 points. She also had 4 rebounds in the contest. Rounding out double digit scoring for WWU was Katie French who chipped in 11 points and went 5-5 from the field.
 
Peyton Greenlee, a 6'0" junior guard from Marshfield, MO only needed three points to achieve her 1000th career point.
 
In her sophomore year, Greenlee averaged 12.3 points per game, whereas during her freshman year she averaged 10.5 points per game.
 
This season, she averages 14.1 points per game, with a career-high of 34 points during the matchup versus Missouri Baptist in early December.
 
WWU returns to action Thursday, Jan. 24th as they travel to Columbia, Mo to face No. 2 Columbia. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Hornets were the first to strike getting out to a quick 7-4 lead. Halfway through the first period, Greenlee knocked down her first three- point basket (and her 1000th career point) to tie the game. But, Jordan May we push Harris-Stowe back ahead on her two-point jump shot.
 
A few possessions later, May scored another two-point bucket but this time she finished in the paint and sparked a 7-0 Hornets run.
 
Down 15-7 with two minutes left, Bailey Rollins knocked down a huge three-pointer for the Owls putting them down five. Exactly one minute later, Greenlee hit another shot from downtown that put WWU down 15-13.
 
With one -minute remaining in the first period, Hazell scored back-to-back two-point baskets to give the Owls a 17-15 first period lead.
 
After picking up late in the first period, William Woods looked to stretch their lead. Two minutes into the second period the Owls were able to gain an 21-17 advantage.
 
Harris-Stowe was finally able to get things rolling, when May connected on her and-one attempt. Knocking down her free throw, she was able to put the Hornets within one of WWU.
 
As time continued to run of the clock, the Owls continued their excellent play. With 2:16 on the game clock, French found the bottom of the net on her midrange jumper giving WWU their largest lead of the game 33-24.
 
Surinna Finnie scored the final points for Harris-Stowe but they would still find themselves behind.
 
In the final seconds of the half, French was fouled and sent to the line where she made 1-2 giving William Woods a 34-26 halftime lead.
 
After a somewhat close first half, the Owls turned up the notch early in the third period. Four-minutes into the half, Kaycee Gerald knocked down a free throw that gave WWU a 43-28 lead.
 
The Hornets continued to fight but could not slow the WWU momentum down as they were able to gain a 52-31 lead with 3-minutes remaining in the third period.
 
A three-point basket from Sebit Gatluak would be the highlight of the period for the Hornets but William Woods regained a 20 point lead on a Rylie Cox free throw that gave the Owls a 57-37 advantage.
 
 
The fourth period was much like the third. Everything was working in WWU's favor.  They continued the strong play and found themselves up 29 with 2:45 remaining.
 
At the 2:44 mark, Greenlee was fouled and sent to the line where she knocked down both attempts that gave the Owls a 73-43 lead. Those foul shots would be Greenlee's final points of the night.
Harris-Stowe score three more points in the contest before a Bekah Joos free throw put a stamp on the game.
 
William Woods would go on to win the contest 78-46.
