Second Half Push Lifts Owls over Columbia, 87-68

COLUMBIA, Mo. –For the second time this season, the William Woods University men's basketball team defeated Columbia College. The 87-68 Thursday evening win further secures the Owl's second place seed in the American Midwest Conference with a 10-3 conference record. Overall, the Owls are 13-6 on the season.
 
The Owls had three finish with 20+ points in the win. Aaron Brookins scored a floor-high 23 points as he shot 5-for-9 from the three-point line. David Johnson Jr. put up 22 points while going 8-for-10 from the foul line, and Treshawn Gause scored 20 as he went 7-for-11 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the foul line. 
 
The Owls close out their three-game road series at undefeated No. 3 Missouri Baptist on Saturday, January 26. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo.
 
Game Flow
David Johnson Jr. began the game with back-to-back three-pointers to give the Owls an early 6-0 advantage just two minutes in. 
 
With five minutes off the clock, Columbia tied the game following a 6-0 run, but the Owls pushed their lead out to nine over the next four minutes with six of the 11 points coming from Shad Kimble.
 
With 6:08 on the clock, Aaron Brookins hit a three to give the Owls a 14-point lead. To end the half, Columbia outscored the Owls 10-2 to cut the game to four heading into break, 35-31. 
 
While the Owls never lost possession in the game, Columbia kept the game within reach in the first part of the second half. 
 
Halfway through the half, Treshawn Gause and Brookins combined for 15 points in a 15-0 Owls run to give them a 21-point lead, 76-55. 
 
The Owls maintained the lead over the final five minutes of play to grab the 87-68 win.
