Third Quarter Blues Lead to Owl’s Loss

CONWAY, Ark. – Third quarter blues led the RV William Woods University women's basketball team to a conference loss at Central Baptist University Saturday. The 65-49 loss brings the Owls to 8-6 on the season with a 4-4 conference mark.
 
It was a low fouling game as both teams combined for just 29 fouls. Peyton Greenlee led the Owls in both scoring (11 points) and rebounding (8 rebounds). Kaycee Gerald recorded almost half of the team's assists with five. 
 
The Owls return home on Tuesday, January 8, following a month's road stretch. The Owls host Lindenwood University-Belleville for a 5:30 p.m. conference tip-off.
 
Game Flow
CBC got on the board first, but Gerald went up in the paint to tie the game at 2-2. Following a WWU defensive rebound, Greenlee scored in the paint to give the Owl's a two-point lead.
 
The Owls pushed out a five-point lead halfway through the quarter as Ashleigh Frampton scored two and Greenlee hit her first three of the game, 9-4.
 
Despite CBC tying up the game thrice more, the Owls managed to stay one step ahead. In the final 20 seconds, CBC hit a three to finally take control of the lead, 16-13. The Owls tried to get off a shot before the buzzer, but CBC got a hand on it to end the quarter.
 
The Owls took a one-point lead two minutes into the second quarter as Kasey Hazell scored four points and Frampton put in a bucket. 
 
CBC scored six in a minute span to take a five-point lead halfway through the quarter. Both teams were scoreless over the next three minutes, but Hazell broke the Owl's silence on a fast break layup with 1:45 to play. 
 
CBC took up their largest lead of the game yet with a seven-point advantage with 36 seconds to play, but Lexy Ganaway hit a three with 18 seconds on the clock to bring the Owl's within four. 
 
CBC had the last shot of the game, hitting a two at the buzzer to send the game into halftime with CBC leading 30-24.
 
The Owls were outscored 22-13 in the third quarter, giving CBC a 15-point advantage with 10 minutes to play. 
 
Gerald scored first in the fourth quarter, putting points on the board for the Owls after almost five minutes of silence. 
 
Greenlee hit a three just two minutes into the fourth to bring the Owl's deficit to single digits, but CBC pushed back with a 9-0 run. The Owls were unable to recover and eventually succumbed to a 65-49 loss.
