Owls Suffer 68-65 Loss to CBC

Box Score CONWAY, Ark. – The William Woods University women's basketball team suffered their third straight loss with Thursday's 68-65 loss to Central Baptist College. The Owls fall to 8-3 on the season with a 3-3 conference mark.
 
The Owls continue their six-game road stretch on Saturday, Dec. 21, at No. 21 Lyon College. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
 
By The Numbers
41.1 – The Owls shot 41.1 percent from the field through 40 minutes of play.
28 – Peyton Greenlee lit up the floor with 28 points (10-for-23 FG, 5-for-14 3FG).
17 – Kaycee Gerald went 5-for-11 from the field and 6-for-6 from the foul line for 17 points.
9 – Greenlee pulled down a floor-high nine boards.

Game Flow
With a slow start to the game for both teams, a Peyton Greenlee three-pointer 2:33 into the game gave the Owls a 3-2 lead. CBC countered with a three, taking back the lead. Greenlee scored three more to even the score at 7 all, and a fast break layup from Rylie Cox following a Kaycee Gerald steal gave the Owls a two-point lead, 9-7. 
 
CBC tied up the game twice before taking a two-point lead following back-to-back buckets with 1:32 left in the first quarter, 15-13. 

On the next possession, Greenlee evened the score to send the game into the second quarter with the teams tied at 15-15.
 
The Owls struck first in the second quarter with a jumper in the paint from Gerald, 17-15, but CBC scored the next five points to take the lead.
 
Greenlee got her hand on a CBC shot with 6:14 on the clock, and Jazlyn Drake grabbed the rebound and drained a three on the fast break to tie the game at 20-20.
 
The Owls evened the score twice more before a three from Caitlin Hicks put the Owls up by one with 2:37 on the clock, 24-23. Greenlee pushed the Owls lead to three with two good free throws, but CBC's Aaliyah Cash scored the final five points of the half to send the Owls into the locker room trailing by two, 28-26.
 
The Owls knotted up the game twice within the first minute of the second half, and back-to-back baskets from Greenlee gave the Owls a four-point lead with 7:49 on the clock, 35-31.
 
CBC evened the score twice, but each time Gerald scored to put the Owls back on top. 
 
The two teams traded leads and were tied up twice more throughout the rest of the quarter. Drake scored the final points of the quarter with :04 on the clock to give the Owls a one-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter, 45-44
 
Greenlee drained a three to push the Owls out to a four-point lead just over a minute into the final 10 minutes, but CBC countered with a 13-2 run to take a seven-point lead halfway through the fourth, 57-50. 
 
Gerald brought the game within four twice, but each time CBC pushed back ahead. 
 
With 18 seconds on the clock, Greenlee sunk a three-pointer to bring the game within three points, 65-62. 
 
Fouling to stop the clock, the Owls sent CBC's leading scorer Holly Allen to the line for two. She made both, giving CBC a five-point lead.
 
Greenlee was at it once again at the three-point line, sinking her fifth of the game with six seconds on the clock. With a two-point deficit, the Owls once again resorted to fouling. After just two seconds were taken off the clock, the Owls fouled to stop it. CBC went 1-for-2 from the line, leaving the game within one scoring possession, 68-65. 
 
Greenlee fired off a three at the buzzer but it did not go in, ending the game with a three-point loss.
