Men's Tennis Wins Second Straight with 5-2 Victory

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 5 William Woods University men's tennis team defeated NCAA Division II Maryville for their second straight win of the season, 5-2. The Owls move to 2-0 on the season with their home-opener versus NCAA Division II Emporia State University up next on March 12.

William Woods took care of business in doubles winning two matches giving the Owls a 1-0 lead going into singles action. Aaron Westerlund and Oscar Barreiro picked up the first doubles win in the No. 1 spot, 6-1. Capturing the next win was Juan Duran and Zach Frisbie in the No. 3 spot 6-2. In line two doubles, Javier Callejo and Christopher Vleeming Ortiz were up 4-3 before ending their match as William Woods picked up two doubles wins.
 
With the 1-0 going into singles play, the Owls came through with four singles wins to defeats the Saints 5-2.
 
To start the Owls off in the No. 1 spot, Javier Callejo scraped up a 6-1, 6-4 win. Oscar Barreiro followed grabbing a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the No. 3 spot. Sam Bird battled for the win in line four singles, defeating his partner 4-6, 6-2, (10-6). Picking up the last win for the Owls was Christopher Vleeming Ortiz who came away with the 6-1, 6-2 victory.
