Owls Fall to Harris-Stowe in AMC Game of the Week

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods men's basketball team recorded their second straight loss in this week's AMC Game of the Week against Harris-Stowe State, 66-59. The Owls are now 15-9 overall and 12-5 in conference play. 
 
David Johnson Jr. led the Owls with 17 points and came down with six rebounds. Makenzie Fessler also recorded a total of six rebounds. Treshawn Gause helped the Owls with six assists and 12 points.
 
The Owls are set to play at Lindenwood-Belleville on Tuesday, February 12, at 7:30 p.m. In their last meeting, the Owls came out on top, 78-64.
 
Game Flow
The Hornets got on the board first with a shot in the paint from Calvin Giles Jr., 2-0, but Brian Enriquez of William Woods turned right back around and scored on the other end, 2-2.
 
Harris-Stowe would eventually make a 16-0 run, leaving the Owls down 21-5.
 
With 10:06 to go, Johnson Jr. would stop the Hornets' run with a bucket to start an 8-0 Owls' run.
 
Gause hit a two-pointer which allowed the Owls within six with 5:38 remaining in the first half, 23-17.
 
The Hornets then jumped into a 6-0 run starting with a Deandre Clark bucket, giving Harris-Stowe a 29-17 lead.
 
The Owls would come within five with two minutes remaining in the first half with a jumper from Enriquez, 29-24. Going into the locker room, the Owls were down 32-24.
 
William Woods started off the second half with a pair of free throws by Johnson Jr., cutting the Owls' deficit to six, 32-26.
 
The Owls and the Hornets went back-and-forth, but a three-pointer by Andrew Nett would give the Owls their first lead of the game with 9:29 to go, 42-41.
 
With eight minutes to go, Codi Whitlock made a shot in the paint and gave the Owls their last lead of the game, 46-44.
 
Both teams were at it again, tying the game seven times, leaving the score at 54-54 with 2:12 remaining. 
 
The Owls would come within one with 1:19 remaining, but it would not be enough as the Hornets pulled away with a 66-59 victory.
