HENDERSON, Tenn. – The William Woods University softball team dropped two games to RV Freed-Hardeman University. The Owls took a 4-3 lead over FHU in game one but lost their lead in the bottom of the sixth, resulting in a 5-4 loss. They were shut out in game two, 6-0.
The Owls turn around and play a doubleheader at Williams Baptist University on Friday, March 29. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
Game One
FHU scored two runs in the second inning with an RBI triple and an RBI single and added a third in the third inning with a home run.
In the top of the fourth,
Lindy Wilson led off with a single to left field.
Chyann Hockett followed with a single to left, and with one out, they were moved a base with
Dacrie Depping's single.
Anna Counts recorded the fourth hit of the inning with a single to center field, bringing home Wilson and moving Hockett and Depping over a base.
Ari Arnold hit to short stop, but FHU threw home to keep the Owls from adding their second run. With two outs and bases loaded,
Emma Walker came up and tripled to the right-center field fence to clear the bases and give the Owls a 4-3 lead.
FHU led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run to tie the game at 4-4, and they took the lead with an RBI single. The Owls defense forced two runners to be left stranded in scoring position as
Brittany Roady struck out the final batter of the inning.
Devyn Burton singled to left field with one out in the top of the seventh.
Regan Wilde came in to pinch run and moved to third on Depping's single to left field. Depping advanced to second on the center fielder's bobble, but a ground out ended the inning and game.
The Owls outhit FHU 15-7. Eight of the 10 batters recorded at least one hit.
Alli Massey and Depping went 3-for-4 from the plate. Walker went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI.
Madison Ausfahl pitched 5.1 innings and was credited with the loss in the circle. She struck out seven. Roady came in as relief and pitched the remaining 0.2 innings.
Game Two
FHU took a 5-0 lead after the first two innings and added their sixth in the fifth.
The Owls were held to just four hits in the second game. Arnold went 2-for-3 from the plate.
Roady was credited with the loss in the circle. She pitched 2.0 innings and struck out two.
Alexis Hassler came in as relief. She pitched the remaining 4.0 innings and struck out three.
