O'FALLON, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team dropped the final two games of the three-game series at Harris-Stowe State University Friday evening.
The 2-0 game one loss and the 6-4 game two loss leaves the Owls still searching for their first conference win. The Owls are now 5-15-1 on the season.
Next up for the Owls is a doubleheader at Park University on March 12. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
Game One
The Owls were held to just two hits in game one while HSSU put up six with two runs scored.
HSSU scored their first run in the second on a sacrifice fly. Their second and last run of the game came in the third.
Marquise Doherty went 1-for-3 with a double.
Tyler Bracht went 1-for-2.
Quincy Jones (0-3) was credited with the loss. He pitched 2.2 innings and struck out two.
Game Two
The Owls' bats warmed up in game two as they outhit HSSU 9-8.
Marquise Doherty began the Owls day with a one out double to right field in the top of the first. He moved to second on
Isaiah Gibbs' single and scored the first run of the day for the Owls on Jones' RBI ground out.
The Owls tacked on a second run in the top of the second with
Connor Poulson scoring on an
Alex Wimer's RBI dropped fly following his double.
HSSU scored four runs to take the lead in the bottom of the third including two runs scored on a two-run home run.
HSSU added two more to their score in the bottom of the seventh on another two-run home run.
Gibbs led off the top of the eighth with a single to second base. He advanced to third on Jones' double to right field and scored on
Zach Smith's RBI ground out. Jones was brought home on
Tyler Bracht's RBI sacrifice bunt, bringing the score to 6-4.
The Owls' defense left a HSSU runner stranded on third in the bottom of the eighth, but the Owls were unable to add more run in the ninth, ending the game with a 6-4 loss.
Gibbs went 3-for-5 from the plate.
Tim Redford went 2-for-4.
Adam Grunden (0-1) was credited with the loss. The starting pitcher pitched 3.0 innings and struck out one.
