MOBILE, Ala. – The No. 6 William Woods University women's tennis team had their season come to a close in the quarterfinals round of the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championships Thursday afternoon. The Owls were swept by No. 3 Xavier University of Louisiana, 5-0.
The Owls end their season with a 16-7 record.
The Owls were down 3-0 at the conclusion of doubles play.
Felicia Cesar and
Chelsea Steward battled it out in the No. 3 doubles but ultimately fell, 9-8 (7-5).
The Owls needed to win five of the six singles to pull out a win, but XULA grabbed a 6-0, 6-4 win over
Zlata Shuraeva in the No. 1 spot and a 6-1, 6-1 win over
Julia Perez Wienese in the No. 2 singles to secure their win. Cesar had just started a third set in the No. 3 singles after coming back with a 6-3 set two win when the match was decided.
The Owls are now 8-4 all-time in the NAIA National Championships with their fourth appearance.
