WWU Volleyball Prepares for Conference Filled Weekend

FULTON, Mo. – After finishing 1-1 in the Ottawa Triangular William Woods University Women's Volleyball returns to action Friday Sept. 26th and Saturday Sept.27th as they host Lyon College and Central Baptist. Friday's matchup is set for 7 p.m. while Saturday's competition is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
About Lyon
The Scots enter the contest 10-5 overall and 2-0 in the AMC which puts them second overall in the conference. After two straight loses to Bethel University and Oklahoma University, Lyon went on a 6-game winning streak defeating opponents in three sets 4 times.
 
Their last time out the defeated Lindenwood-Belleville 3-2.
 
As a team, the Scots hold three national rankings. They rank 10th overall in hitting percentage (.24), 25th overall in-service aces per game (2.1) and 34th overall in total service aces (114).
 
Michayla Shanks is the only Lyon player with national rankings. She currently ranks 41st overall in-service aces per game (.5). She is also leading the Scots with 139 total kills.

Destiny Nunez is also playing well for Lyon. Her 133 digs puts her first on the team. Shanks follows closely behind with 119.

So far this season the Scots have recorded 646 total kills, 114 service aces and 1,702 total attacks.

History between William Woods and Lyon
The first match between the Owls and Scots took place on October 7. 2000 when Lyon defeated WWU 1-3. Since then, they have faced of 10 more times in which William Woods holds a 10-1 series lead.
 
The last match between WWU and LC was on Sept. 21, 2018. WWU defeated Lyon 3-0.
 
About Central Baptist
The Mustangs enter the contest 6-9 overall and 0-2 in AMC. After finishing 2-2 in the Philander Smith Tournament, Central Baptist began the month of September 2-5. Towards the middle of the month they defeated LaGrange College but lost three-straight.

Their last time out they defeated Crowley's Ridge College 3-1. Prior to the victory they defeated St. Louis College of Pharmacy 3-0.

CB currently ranks 42nd overall in the nation in digs per game (17.5).

So far this season, the Mustangs have recorded 537 kills, 83 service aces and 1,843 total attacks.

About William Woods
William Woods enters the contest 10-11 overall and 1-1 in the AMC. They are recently coming 1-1 finish in the Ottawa Triangular. They Owls lost their first game to host RV Ottawa 3-1 but redeemed themselves in the second match defeating Sterling College (Kan.) 3-1.

As a team the Owls hold five national rankings. They rank 6th overall in total blocks (154), 28th overall in total kills (803), 33rd overall in blocks per game (2), 33rd overall in total assists (722) and 46th overall in total digs (1,047).

The Owls also have three players with national rankings. Jaclyn Zahn ranks 13th overall in total blocks per game (70). She also ranks 30th overall in blocks per game (1).
 
Kayton Coffee ranks 36th overall in total service aces (28) while Remie Johnson ranks 42nd overall in total assists (494).

So far this season the Owls have tallied 803 kills, 106 service aces and 2,357 total attacks.
 
 
 
History between WWU and Central Baptist
These two teams first saw each other on October 10, 2015. William Woods defeated the Mustangs 3-0. Since then they have met three more times. WWU currently holds a 4-0 series lead.
