Owls Look For Second Home Win as They Host Baker University

FULTON, Mo. – William Woods University Women's Volleyball returns to Anderson Arena Tuesday night as they take on Baker University. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
 
About Baker
The Wildcats enter the contest 5-7 overall. They began their 2019 season at the Forester Invitational where they finished 3-1. After a great start to the season they competed in the Northwestern Tournament where they finished 0-4 with one of the losses coming to No. 7 Northwestern College.

Their last time out they captured their fifth win of the season defeating College of Saint Mary 3-0 (25-15, 32-30, 26-24).

As of now, Baker holds four national rankings. They are 23rd in the nation overall in total kills (449), 24th overall in total assists (399), 27th overall in total service aces (62) and 46 overall in total digs (536).

Tay Kile is leading the Wildcats with 72 total kills. On Aug. 17th she recorded a season high 10 kills against Tennessee Wesleyan. On that same day she broke her season high recording 12 kills against Gashen (Ind.).

Also playing well for Baker is Saylor Zurcher. Her 62 digs puts her in the top spot on the team.  On Aug. 16th she recorded her season high 15 digs against Huntington (Ind.).

About William Woods
The Owls enter the contest 3-4 overall. They are currently coming off a 1-3 finish in the Hampton Volleyball Classic. Their only victory was an upset over No. 15 the Masters University (Calif.) in which WWU won 3-2 (25-27, 25-22, 27-25, 25-23, 15-8).

William Woods currently hold one national ranking. They rank 45th overall in blocks per game (2). Jaclyn Zahn is the only Owl with national rankings. She ranks 25th overall in blocks per game (1.2) and 47th overall in total blocks (31).

Nise Salima is also playing very well for WWU. She currently leads with 78 total kills.  In their upset over No.15 the Masters (Calif.) she recorded a season career high 20 kills and a career high 2 assists.

History between Baker and William Woods
The Owls and Wildcats first met on Jan. 24th 1989. WWU was able to get the victory defeating Baker 2-1. Since then the two have played each other 14 times in which the Wildcats hold an 11-4 advantage. Tonight will be the 16th match of the series.
