FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's soccer team secured their second win of the season against No. 14 Bellevue University (Neb.) on Thursday evening, 3-2. The Owls are now 2-3 on the season.
The Owls got things started with 20:52 remaining in the first period with a goal by Jagan Crane, assisted by Billy Nzojyibwami, 1-0. The Owls captured one out of two shots in the first period, while the Bruins took one of four shots. With 35 seconds left in the first period, Inaki Aldao of Bellevue tied it up, 1-1. The game was tied 1-1 going into halftime.
Early into the second period, Iker Gonzalez made his second save of the game. Seconds after, a yellow card was given to Bellevue, resulting in a William Woods penalty kick. Darren Wilson scored, extending the lead, 2-1 with 42:06 to go.
With an assist by Luca Crivellari, Nzojyibwami secured his first goal of the night, which would also be the Owls' last goal of the match, 3-1.
The Bruins would take nine shots in the second period, scoring their second with 12:25 remaining in the game. John Cover scored the Bruins only goal of the second period.
William Woods finished the game with a 3-2 victory upsetting No. 14 Bellevue.
The Owls took a total of six shots, with four shots on goal, while the Bruins recorded 15 shots, with nine shots on goal.
The Owls will return to Firley Field this Saturday, September 7 to face Northwestern College (Iowa) at 12 p.m.
