Owls Pull Out Win on Senior Day

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team honored their two seniors prior to Saturday's 75-71 win over Missouri Baptist University. The Owls improve to 13-13 on the season with the win, 9-10 in conference play. 
 
Darius Yohe posted his sixth double-double of the season.
 
The Owls next host Park University for their home finale on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m.
 
By The Numbers
43.5 – The Owls shot 43.5 percent from the field through 40 minutes of play.
19 – Makenzie Fessler posted a team-high 19 points (8-for-12 FG). 
18 – Darius Yohe posted 18 points while going 5-for-9 from the field and 8-for-10 from the line for his sixth double-double of the season.
16 – Yohe pulled down 16 boards with 10 coming from the defensive end. 
5 – Tyriel Nelson dished in a floor-high five assists.
3 – Yohe blocked three MBU shots.
 
Game Flow
The Owls jumped out to a five-point lead to start the game following back-to-back buckets from Treshawn Gause and Tyriel Nelson.
 
MBU brought the game within one with 14:36 on the clock following a fast break play, but Makenzie Fessler scored on a put-back to put the Owls up by three, 11-8. 
 
Darius Yohe put the Owls up by four, but MBU pushed an 8-0 run to take a four-point lead with 8:37 on the clock, 16-12. 
 
Andrew Nett quickly hit a three to halt their run, and Gause made a long jumper to take back a one-point lead with 7:34 to play in the first, 17-16.
 
MBU took the lead again just 14 seconds later, but a hook shot from Yohe with 6:02 to play gave the Owls back the lead, 21-20.
 
Ian Hodges hit a three and Yohe went 2-for-2 from the foul line to give the Owls a six-point lead, 28-22. MBU cut the game to two with a minute to play, but Nelson scored the final points of the game to send the team into halftime with a 30-26 lead.
 
Yohe scored on the first possession of the second half to give the Owls a six-point lead, but MBU managed to take a one-point lead just over three minutes in, 38-37.
 
D'Aaron Owens hit a three to pull back in the lead, but MBU evened the score on the next play. A traditional three-point play from Fessler gave the Owls a three-point lead, 43-40.
 
The Owls blasted a 9-0 run spanning just over a minute to take up a 10-point lead with 13:08 on the clock, forcing MBU to call a timeout. MBU scored coming out of the timeout, but WWU continued to hold a healthy lead.
 
With 6:15 on the clock, MBU brought the game within three, 61-58. 
 
A tradition three-point play from Owens put the Owls up by six with 3:43 on the clock, but MBU brought the game within one, 66-65. 
 
Gause hit a jumper in the paint to take a three-point lead with 1:23 to play, and after MBU cut the game back to two, Fessler hit a three from the top of the key to go up by five with 17 seconds on the clock, 74-69.
 
MBU went 2-for-2 from the foul line to bring the game within three with 11 seconds to play. 
 
Fouling to stop the clock, Hodges headed to the foul line. Going 1-for-2, the Owls took up a four-point lead with six seconds to go, 75-71. 
 
MBU burned their final two timeouts following their defensive rebound on Hodges' second free throw, but they missed their final three attempt to end the game.
