Owls Fall to Freed-Hardeman

HENDERSON, Tenn.  The William Woods University men's basketball team fell to Freed-Hardeman Thursday evening, 79-64. The Owls fall to 14-14 on the season with a 10-11 conference mark.
 
The Owls close out the 2019-20 regular season at Williams Baptist on Saturday, Feb. 22. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. With the final week of regular season being a bye week for the Owls, the team will wait to find out their fate in the American Midwest Conference Championship. They currently sit in a three-way tie for seventh with the top eight teams advancing to the Championship.

13 – D'Aaron Owens led the Owls with 13 points.
10 – Makenzie Fessler and Tyriel Nelson put up 10 points each.
8 – Darius Yohe pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
3 – Nelson and Ian Hodges grabbed three steals.
 
Game Flow
FHU pushed a 7-0 lead just under two minutes into the game.
 
The Owls got on the board with two free throws from Darius Yohe, but FHU responded with an 11-2 run to take up a 14-point lead with 14:16 left in the first half, 18-4. 
 
FHU continued to hold a double-digit lead throughout the first half, pushing their lead as far as 16 points.
 
With 4:08 on the clock, Codi Whitlock went to the line for two. Sinking both, the Owls came within 10.
 
Tyriel Nelson scored the final three points of the half, bringing the Owls within nine heading into halftime, 36-27.
 
D'Aaron Owens hit a jumper to start the second half, bringing the Owls within seven. 
 
FHU put their lead back to 10, but two free throws from Nelson brought the Owls within eight with 17:38 on the clock, 39-31.
 
The Owls managed to bring the score within single digits just once more in the game as Whitlock hit a jumper with just over three minutes off the clock, 42-33.
 
FHU struck a 6-0 run following to go up by 15. With 11:35 on the clock, they extended their lead to 21 points, 59-38.
 
A steal and fast break lay-up from Ian Hodges brought the Owls within 14 with 4:22 to play, 67-53. Owens' steal and fast break jumper brought the Owls within 13 with 1:46 on the clock.
 
FHU made the final points of the game on free throws, ending the game with a 79-64 loss.
