QUINCY, Ill. – The William Woods University men's tennis team grabbed a 5-2 win over NCAA Division II Quincy University Friday afternoon. The Owls move to 2-0 on the season with the win.
The Owls begin their spring break trip on Sunday with a match at No. 10 Tennessee Wesleyan.

The Owls took a 1-0 lead over QU as they swept the doubles play. The
Aaron Westerlund and
Nathan Cooke duo shut out QU in the No. 1 doubles, 6-0.
Sam Bird and
Patrick Shelepov in the No. 2 doubles and
Jack Campbell and
Jesus Amezcua in the No. 3 doubles won with 6-3 scores.
In singles play, the Owls went 4-2.
Shelepov finished first with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 2 singles.
QU won their first point to bring the match to 2-1 in the No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-2.
Amezcua gave the Owls a 3-1 lead after winning the No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Westerlund finished next with a 7-5 and 6-4 win in the No. 1 singles.
QU scored their second and final point in the No. 6 singles with the scores of 6-3 and 6-3.
Bird earned the final point for the Owls as he won in a tiebreaker in the No. 5 singles. He lost the first set 7-5 before bouncing back with 6-3 and 10-6 wins.
