Owls Sweep Park

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team swept Park in a strong offensive appearance Wednesday afternoon. The Owls finished game one of the doubleheader with a 13-4 win and followed it up with a 9-1 game two win. The Owls improve to 11-9 on the season with a 4-7 conference mark.

The Owls will complete the three-game series with Park on Tuesday, March 31, in Parkville, Mo.

Marcus Gonzalez went 7-for-10 from the plate with five runs scored. 

The Owls next play a three-game road series with Williams Baptist University starting on Friday, March 13.

 
Game One
The Owls scored at least one run in every inning at the plate.
 
The Owls put up a 1-0 lead after one with Easton Wallace's RBI single to left-center field.
 
Following a passed ball in the bottom of the second, Park's catcher overthrew to second giving Connor Poulson the chance to head home. Marcus Gonzalez hit home Alex Wimer for the Owls' third run.
 
The Owls pitching staff walked in two runs for Park to bring the game to 3-2.
 
Isaiah Gibbs led off the bottom of the third with a double. He stole third and scored on Poulson's RBI single. Poulson scored two batters later on a stolen base to put the Owls up 5-2.
 
The Owls tacked on four more runs in the fourth to take a 9-2 lead. Wallace hit a sacrifice fly to score Jordan Smith, followed by a Gibbs' sacrifice fly to plate Gonzalez. Eric Rothermich and Brady Owen then scored on Poulson's two RBI single to center field.
 
Park plated one on a RBI double down the left field line in the top of the fifth.
 
In the bottom of the inning, Jack Niggemeier scored an unearned run on Wallace's RBI single to right field.
 
Park put up their fourth and final run of the game in the top of the sixth with a home run over the right field fence.
 
WWU added three runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth to take a 13-4 lead. Rothermich plated the first run of the inning on Wimer's sacrifice fly. Smith then doubled to left-center field to knock Tyklen Salmons and Poulson home.
 
The Owls recorded 15 hits in the game. Gonzalez went 4-for-5 from the plate with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Poulson went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, three RBI and two stolen bases.
 
Andrew Fyffe (1-0) tossed 2.2 innings for the win. He struck out three while allowing just two hits and one earned run.
 

Game Two
The Owls jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning in game two. Smith was walked in, and Gonzalez and Wallace scored on sacrifice flies from Poulson and Chase Gibson.
 
Smith scored his second run of the game in the second inning on Gonzalez's triple to the left field fence. Gonzalez was brought home on Wallace's RBI double down the right field line, and Wallace scored the Owls' sixth run on an error.
 
In the top of the fifth, Park scored their first and only run of the game on an RBI single.
 
The Owls plated their seventh run in the bottom of the sixth on a Gibbs' RBI single just over second base to score Gonzalez.
 
With bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, Alex Owens hit a two RBI single to shallow center field to plate Smith and Wallace, giving the Owls a 9-1 lead.
 
The Owls put up 12 hits. Alex Owens went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with an RBI, a triple and three runs scored. 

Spencer Burnham (3-1) tossed 6.0 innings and struck out seven while allowing just four hits and no earned runs.
