McPHERSON, Kan. – The William Woods University softball team split at the McPherson Spring Tournament Thursday afternoon. The Owls opened the day with an 8-4 loss to host McPherson, but bounced back with a 3-1 win over MidAmerica Nazarene in game two.
The Owls move to 8-12 on the season.
After Friday's games were canceled due to weather, next up on the schedule is a conference doubleheader versus Park on Tuesday, Mar. 17.
McPherson def. William Woods, 8-4
Bri Devellano hit a one-out single in the top of the second and was brought home with
Madison Ausfahl's RBI triple to left field. M. Ausfahl then scored on
Taylor Bell's sacrifice fly to center field to give the Owls a 2-0 lead.
The Owls added two more runs in the top of the third to take a 4-0 lead.
Anna Counts crossed home plate on
Alexis Hassler's RBI single to right field, and
Abbi Pringer scored on Devellano's RBI single to left field.
MC evened the score as they plated four runs in the bottom of the third on two doubles.
MC added two runs in the fifth on a two RBI double to take the lead, and they plated two more in the sixth to take up an 8-4 lead.
Devellano went 2-for-3 from the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Hassler went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Brittany Roady (3-3) pitched the complete game loss. She struck out eight while allowing seven earned runs.

The Owls took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a
Jessi Butler RBI single up the middle to score M. Ausfahl.
In the bottom of the fourth the Owls were forced to leave two runners stranded in scoring position.
In the fifth,
Hanna Knipp's RBI single to right field plated
Kenzie Ausfahl to put the Owls up 2-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, M. Ausfahl plated her second run of the game on a catching error by first base to put the Owls up 3-0.
MNU scored one in the top of the seventh on a RBI ground out following a lead-off double. The Owls left a runner stranded on third as they grabbed the final out to win the game 3-1.
The Owls outhit MNU 8-2 with Mahoney going 3-for-3 from the plate.
M. Ausfahl (2-1) pitched a two-hitter complete game win. She fadced 24 batters, walked two and allowed just one earned run.
