Owls Knocked From AMC Championship in Semifinals

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The No. 25 William Woods University women's basketball team dropped the semifinal game of the American Midwest Conference Championship to No. 11 Lyon to end their run. The Owls end with a 25-7 record and will wait to see if they earn an at-large bid to the NAIA National Championship. 
 
The bracket reveal will take place via the NAIA Facebook page on March 11 at 6 p.m. The NAIA National Championship takes place in Billings, Mont. on March 18-24.
 
By The Numbers
18 – Kaycee Gerald went 7-for-13 from the field for a team-high 18 points. 
7 – Peyton Greenlee pulled down a team-high seven boards.
4 – Gerald dished in four assists.
 
 
Game Flow
Lyon jumped out to an 18-0 run to start the game, keeping the Owls scoreless until 2:29 left in the first quarter. Kaycee Gerald finally broke the Owls' silence with a short jumper, and they scored 11 points in the final two minutes. The Owls cut the game to 11 after the first quarter. 
 
Rylie Cox hit a three to start the second quarter and laid up a bucket with 6:02 on the clock to bring the Owls within six, 22-16.
 
A three from Gerald brought the Owls back within six with 4:49 on the clock after Lyon pushed back a six-point lead.  
 
Lyon took up a 10-point lead with 30 seconds left, but Jazlyn Drake hit a shot at the buzzer to send the game into halftime with the Owls trailing 35-27.
 
Lyon blasted a 10-2 run through the first eight minutes of the second half to take back an 18-point lead, 50-32. 
 
The Owls cut the game to 13 at the end of the quarter with two free throws from Drake, 51-38.
 
The Owls were held to just seven points in the final quarter while Lyon put up 20 to fall 71-45.
