Men’s Basketball Falls at Lyon

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The William Woods University men's basketball team fell to Lyon College Saturday afternoon, 65-51. The Owls fall to 2-5 on the season with a 2-3 conference mark.
 
Makenzie Fessler posted his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. 
 
The Owls return home for a four-game home stretch starting with a Thursday game versus Missouri Baptist University. Tip-off on the 21st is slated for 7:30 p.m.
 
By The Numbers
13 – Makenzie Fessler went 5-for-11 from the field for a team-high 13 points.
12 – Jared Crutcher put up 12 points after shooting 6-for-11 from the field.
11 – Tyriel Nelson shot 50 percent from the field to tally 11 points.
10 – Makenzie Fessler pulled down 10 boards for his first double-double of the season.
 
Game Flow 
Lyon scored first with a three, but Makenzie Fessler quickly evened the score with a three from Codi Whitlock. Lyon pushed out by four, but a fast-break three from Tyriel Nelson brought the Owls within one with five minutes off the clock, 7-6.
 
Lyon pushed out by five, but the Owls cut the game to two with a Fessler three. The two teams then traded points as Lyon stayed one step ahead.
 
With 5:13 on the clock, Spencer Yoggerst hit a long jumper to start a 6-0 run, giving the Owls their first lead of the game, 25-23. Lyon hit a three 30 seconds later to take back the lead, and extended it to four.
 
The Owls scored the final points of the half with a free throw from Yoggerst and a short jumper from Nelson to cut their deficit to one heading into break, 29-28.
 
Andrew Nett put the Owls up on the first play of the second half with a three, but Lyon answered with a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to grab a 10-point lead, 41-31. 
 
The Owls brought the game back within single digits, but Lyon pushed back out and took a 17-point lead just under halfway through the second half, 54-37.
 
The Owls were unable to cut their deficit, and they were outscored 36-23 in the second half for a 65-51 loss.
