Box Score FULTON, Mo. – After 295 days of silence coming from any Owls' field of competition, the William Woods University men's basketball team hosted No. 5 Arizona Christian University Saturday afternoon. The Owls fell 91-51 to the No. 5 team, opening the 2021 season with a 0-1 record.
Spencer Yoggerst put the first points on the board to take a 2-0 lead. ACU scored the next eight straight, taking an 8-2 lead.
With 15:19 on the clock,
Andrew Nett drained a three to bring the game to 8-5. ACU hit back-to-back threes, but Nett hit his second three to cut the game to six with 12:30 on the clock, 14-8.
Ian Hodges,
Tyriel Nelson and
Darius Yohe each added points to the board to cut the game to one with 9:55 to play in the first half, 16-15.
ACU scored three on a traditional three-point play to go up by four, and both sides were silent for the next two minutes.
WWU's
Spencer Yoggerst went 2-for-2 from the foul line minutes later to bring the game within two with 5:12 to play, 20-18.
ACU blasted a 10-0 run to take a 12-point lead with 2:46 remaining in the half, 30-18. The two teams headed into halftime with the Owls trailing 36-22.
ACU took a 22-point lead five minutes into the second half, holding the Owls to just a three.
Tyriel Nelson dropped one in to cut the game to back within 20, but ACU pushed their lead to 28 with a 9-0.
The Owls were unable to bring the game back within 30 in the final 10 minutes, and ACU outscored WWU 55-29 in the second half to win it 91-51.
