FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team hit a long jumper at the buzzer to send Saturday's game versus Hannibal-LaGrange into overtime. The Owls proceeded to outscore HLG 13-8 in extra time to grab a 60-55 win.
The Owls move to 2-4 on the season.
The team next hosts RV Columbia College on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 5:30 p.m.

Game Flow
Natalie Thomas kicked off the game with a three coming off the tip. A three from
Tori Nesslage gave the Owls a four-point lead, and
Kiyanna Rodgers went 2-for-2 from the foul line to put the Owls up by six with 5:44 to play in the first quarter, 8-2. HLG scored six consecutive over the next 2:40 to even the score at 8-8, but the Owls scored the next six with four points coming from Rodgers at the line to give the Owls a 14-8 advantage heading into the second quarter.
A two from
Amaya Keeling gave the Owls an eight-point lead just under halfway through the second, 20-12, but HLG scored back-to-back buckets to cut the game to four with 3:16 on the clock. Rodgers drained a three on the next play to put the Owls up by seven, and the two teams were unable to find the net again in the first half. The Owls led 23-16 heading into halftime.
Keeling scored first coming into the second half, giving the Owls a nine-point advantage, 25-16. HLG scored five to cut the game to three just three minutes into the quarter, 25-22. The Owls pushed out a seven-point lead with 4:20 to play, but HLG finished out the quarter with a 13-3 run, taking a three-point lead heading into the fourth, 38-35.
HLG extended their lead to six just over halfway through the fourth, 43-37.
Tori Nesslage and
Kasey Hazell scored back-to-back buckets to cut the deficit to two with 2:28 on the clock. HLG stayed one step ahead, leading by three with 48 seconds to play.
Jheda Kennedy was fouled and headed to the line for two. She made both, bringing the game within one with 32 seconds on the clock, 46-45. HLG went 1-for-2 on their free throws, and with three seconds on the clock, the Owls had one last chance to score.

The Owls pushed out a 10-2 run to start overtime with Thomas hitting back-to-back three-pointers. HLG cut the game to two as they scored six while holding the Owls silent for almost two minutes, 57-55. Fouling to stop the clock, HLG sent the Owls to the line twice in the final seconds. Rodgers went 2-for-2 from the line to give the Owls a five-point lead to close out the game with a 60-55 win.
