Owls Fall to WBU Following Second Quarter Blues

 
 
FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods women's basketball team suffered a 76-54 loss following a detrimental second quarter. The Owls fall to 1-1 on the season and in conference play.
 
Tori Nesslage and Arriyonn Phillips each posted double-doubles in the loss. 
 
The Owls host Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday, Jan. 9, at 1 p.m.

13 – Tori Nesslage, Natalie Thomas and Arriyonn Phillips each scored 13.
11 – Nesslage posted a double-double with 11 rebounds and 13 points.
10 – Phillips also posted a double-double with 10 rebounds with her 13 points.
4 – Nesslage dished in four assists.
 
Game Flow
WBU scored first to start the game, but the Owls answered with a three from Tori Nesslage. Natalie Thomas pushed their lead to six with five points, and Nesslage went 2-for-2 from the foul line to put the Owls up by eight with 3:50 on the clock, 12-4. WBU held the Owls to just two points while they put up eight to cut the game to two. WBU brought the game within one with 1:03 on the clock, but Arriyonn Phillips scored a bucket in the paint to end the quarter with the Owls up 18-15.
 
WBU outscored the Owls 25-5 in the second quarter, sending the game into halftime with the Owls trailing 40-23.
 
The Owls and WBU traded buckets, but WBU scored five straight to take a 21-point lead with 5:51 on the clock. The Owls answered with a three from Thomas and a jumper from Kasey Hazell to cut the game to 16, but WBU answered with an 8-0 run to take a 24-point lead with 1:30 to play in the third quarter. 
 
Phillips and Hazell scored back-to-back points to bring the game within 23, but WBU pushed back out a 27-point lead. A 6-0 Owls run brought the team within 21 with 4:05 to play. The two teams traded points, and Phillips went back up following an offensive rebound to score the final points of the game, 76-54.
