Men's Basketball Dominates Columbia, 83-70

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team dominated Columbia College on their home turf Saturday afternoon, 83-70. The win is the Owls' seventh straight win in Anderson Arena. The team moves to 5-7 on the season and begins American Midwest Conference play with a 1-0 record.
 
The Owls next play NCAA Division III Calvin University in an exhibition game on Friday, Dec. 10, at 6:30 p.m.

Game Highlights
Spencer Yoggerst scored the first seven points for the Owls including the first five points of the game.  CC evened the score, but a three from Andrew Nett put the Owls back up by five with 16:30 on the clock, 12-7.
 
A three from Makenzie Fessler gave the Owls a six-point lead, and a three from Yoggerst put the Owls up by nine with 11:22 on the clock.
 
The Owls blasted an 8-0 run with points coming from Fessler, Jared Crutcher and Mike Robinson to give the Owls a 12-point lead with 8:23 to play after CC cut the game to four. A three-point play from Yoggerst gave the Owls a 14-point lead, but CC again knocked the game to just a four-point spread with 2:32 to play, 37-33.
 
Fessler and Andrew Nett combined for five points to put the Owls back up by nine with 1:42 to play, but CC closed out the half with four points to send the Owls into halftime with a 42-37 lead.
 
Just 2:34 into the second half, CC evened the score at 45-45.
 
Two free throws from Fessler and a three-point play from Yoggerst pushed the Owls back to a five-point lead, and back-to-back points from Fessler gave the Owls an eight-point lead with 12:20 to play, 55-47.
 
CC used a 6-0 run to cut the game to two points.
 
A three from Robinson put the Owls up by six, and just 40 seconds later Robinson was fouled on a three. He went 3-for-3 from the line to boost the Owls' lead to nine with 6:42 on the clock, 64-55.
 
A three from Nathan Schwartze put the Owls up by 10. CC cut the game to six following a fast break layup with 4:36 to play, but the Owls pushed the lead back to double digits.
 
A dunk from Jared Crutcher gave the Owls a 12-point advantage with 1:12 to play, and Schwartze and Fessler added three more points to give the Owls a 15-point lead with 30 seconds on the clock.
 
CC scored the final points of the half, ending the game with an 83-70 win.
