SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The No. 14 William Woods University men's tennis fell short to RV Marian University 4-3 Sunday afternoon on the road. The Owls move to 2-2 on the season.
The Owls took the doubles point, winning the no. 1 and no. 2 matches.
In no. 1 doubles,
Patrick Shelepov paired up with
Ben Grumley to win their match against Diogo Jesus and Camilo Mesa, 6-2. In no. 2 doubles,
Aaron Westerlund and
Nathan Cooke defeated Mark Griffin and Greg Fulling, 6-2.
The Owls were able to grab just two singles points while Marian solidified their win with four.
Competing in no. 1 singles, Shelepov won his match over Jesus 6-2, 6-2. Subert grabbed the final Owls' point as he defeated Ashwin Bhat in no. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Grumley fell to Mesa in no. 2 singles, 4-6, 7-5, 8-10. In no. 3 singles, Westerlund lost his match over Hunter Sylvester, 0-6, 7-6(3), 7-10. In no. 4 singles, Novovic fell to Griffin, 3-6, 2-6. In no. 6 singles, Schorr fell to Dimitrii Voshchenkov, 5-7, 7-6(2), 8-10.
The No. 14 Owls return to action Friday, Mar. 5, versus Bethel College at home at 1 p.m.
