Women’s Basketball Falls to RV Columbia

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team fell to receiving votes Columbia College Monday evening, 64-50. The loss drops the Owls to 2-8 on the season.
 
The Owls continue their three-game home week with a Tuesday game versus University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. with senior day festivities for Tori Nesslage starting prior.

Game Flow
Columbia jumped out to a 10-0 lead after 3:10 into the game. The Owls broke their silence with a good free throw 4 ½ minutes in, and Kasey Hazell scored two on a put-back to bring the Owls within seven with 2:38 on the clock, 10-3. Jheda Kennedy drained a three to score the final points of the quarter, leaving the Owls trailing by six, 12-6.
 
The Owls rallied a 7-0 run midway through the second quarter to bring the game within five after Columbia started the quarter with a 9-3 run. With 5:32 on the clock, the Owls trailed 21-16. Amaya Keeling sunk a three with 3:10 on the clock to bring the Owls within four, 23-19, but Columbia scored on back-to-back threes to end the half with a 10-point lead, 29-19.
 
Natalie Thomas scored on a fast break layup to score first in the second half, and Kennedy followed with a long jumper to bring the Owls within six just over two minutes in, 29-23. Columbia posted a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 15-point lead, 38-23. The two teams traded buckets, and Columbia held a 16-point lead heading into the final quarter, 49-33.
 
Columbia pushed their lead to 20 to start the fourth quarter. The Owls put together five consecutive points with four coming from Tori Nesslage to bring the game within 15, but Columbia answered by putting their lead back to 20. The Owls rebounded with a 6-0 run to cut the game to 14 with 32 seconds left in the game, 64-50. Neither team scored in the final seconds, ending the game with a 64-50 loss.
