FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team saw their season come to a close following a 3-2 loss to Missouri Baptist University in the American Midwest Conference Championship Semifinals. The Owls end their season with a 9-3 overall record.
MBU will now play one-seeded Columbia in the championship game on Thursday, April 8.
MBU took a 1-0 lead after putting in the ball from 25 yards out in the 16
th minute.
Sydney Balducci slid in and punched the ball under the keeper in the 33
rd minute to even the score at 1-1.
The two teams were unable to score again in the first half, sending the game into halftime even at 1-1.
Cindy Gonzalez scored from Balducci's cross five minutes into the second period, giving the Owls a 2-1 lead. Balducci crossed and Gonzalez went around a defender for a shot from 15 yards out.
MBU rebounded off the cross bar and fired the ball in to the top corner of the goal to even the score at 2-2 with 30 minutes to play.
In the 84
th minute, MBU scored to take a 3-2 lead. The Owls were unable to find the back of the net again in the remaining time.
The Owls fired off 27 shots to MBU's eight while making 15 shots on goal.
Cevana Borgstedt played 90 minutes in goal and made four stops.
