Baseball Season Ends with Lyon Loss in AMC Championship

O'FALLON, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team concluded their season with a 15-8 loss to Lyon College (Ark.) in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Championship. 
 
The Owls finished with a 24-17 overall record. 
 
Lyon went on to play Missouri Baptist in another elimination game immediately following the Owls' loss. The winner advances to the finals against Columbia College.
 
Game Highlights
Lyon scored two in the top of the first inning on a two-run inside-the-park homer. They added a third run in the second inning on a RBI double. 
 
WWU scored one in the second on an Alex Wimer RBI single to left field to score Bryson Matthews. They added four more in the third to take a 5-3 lead. Isaiah Gibbs led off the inning with his third homerun of the year. Three batters later, Kamron Morriss hit a two-run homer to left field to score Matthews. Wimer then grabbed his second RBI single of the day to score Alex Owens.
 
Lyon scored three in the fifth inning on a RBI single and a two RBI triple to go up by one, 6-5. They added one more in the sixth off a solo homerun to take a 7-5 lead.
 
WWU again went back ahead as they plated three in the bottom of the sixth. Matthews hit a RBI single to center field to score Gibbs. A fielding error allowed Tyklen Salmons to score on the next play, and Easton Wallace scored on Wimer's RBI fielder's choice. 
 
Lyon scored five in the eighth and added three more in the ninth to take a 15-8 lead.
 
Wimer went 4-5 from the plate with three RBI. Gibbs, Matthews and Owens each recorded two hits. 
 
Dylan Hansen (5-3) was credited with the loss. He pitched 1.2 innings in relief. Brock Glavey started on the mound and pitched 3.0 innings while striking out one.
