OSKALOOSA, Iowa – The William Woods University volleyball team closed out the Labor Day Tournament with two wins. The Owls swept Waldorf to start the day and ended the day with a 3-1 win over Mount Marty. They went 3-1 on the weekend, bringing their season record to 7-3.
The team next travels to Baldwin City, Kan. for a two-day tournament hosted by Baker University starting on Friday, Sept. 10.

An ace from
Emily Greif and two kills from
Riley Alton helped the Owls to a 4-0 start to the match. They followed with a 13-1 run to take a 17-3 early lead. A kill from
Hannah Kuehl ended the set with a 25-11 win.
Waldorf grabbed the lead first in set two, but a 4-0 run put the Owls up 10-7. After holding a three-point lead, Waldorf pushed a 5-0 run to take a 16-14 lead. The Owls remained one step behind until a Waldorf attack error began a 4-0 run for the Owls to tie the set at 24-24. The Owls closed out the set with a 3-0 run to win, 27-25.
The two teams were neck-and-neck throughout set three, but the Owls always managed to stay one step ahead. After Waldorf evened the score at 20 all late in the set, the Owls pushed a 5-1 run to close out the match with a 25-21 win.

Game Highlights
MMU jumped out to an early 10-2 lead to start the match. The Owls forced a 4-0 run while MMU sat at set point, but they were unable to even the score. A kill from MMU ended the set with a 25-23 loss for the Owls.
The Owls turned a switch in set two and blasted their own 10-3 lead to start. They went on to take a 16-6 lead. Following kills from
Lauren Adams and Alton, the Owls sat at set point with a 24-12 lead. MMU strung together a 3-0 run, but the set ended with a MMU error for the Owls' 25-15 win.
The lead bounced around to start set three, but a 6-1 run from the Owls' with four kills from four different Owls and an ace from
Lauren Hiestand gave the team a 14-9 lead. The team pieced together a 3-0 run with blocks from Adams,
Kassidy Phillips and
Alli Gueck along with an ace from Kuehl to give the team a 22-13 lead. A kill from Adams sealed the 25-16 win, giving the Owls a 2-1 lead.
The Owls started set four with a 5-2 lead. A 5-0 run midway through the set with Kuehl, Phillips and
Blair Busenbark having their hand in the points gave the team a seven-point lead, 17-10. An ace from
Tori Rosemann ended a 4-0 Owls' run that brought the team to set point, and a kill from Alton gave the Owls the match win, 25-15.
