Owls Complete Fourth Conference Sweep

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team swept newly-joined AMC member Cottey College for a 3-0 win Friday evening. The Owls have swept four of the five conference opponents this season, bringing their AMC record to 4-1. On the season, they are 7-12.
 
The Owls won 25-16, 25-16, 25-22.
 
The team jumps to non-conference play at the Grand View University Tournament taking place on Oct. 14-15.  
 
By The Numbers
.667 ­– Paige Lamm put down four kills with no errors in set three for a .667 hitting percentage.
.462 – Lauren Adams hit .462 with a team-high seven kills (7-1-13).
17 – Tori Rosemann led the floor with 17 digs.
14 – Erin Treis assisted in 14 Owls' kills.
9 – As a team, the Owls blocked an impressive nine Comet attacks.
7 – Lauren Adams and Lanie Lowry each grabbed seven kills at the net.

How It Happened
The Owls pushed an early 6-0 run with four kills, a Ryleigh McBurney ace and a Comet error to double Cottey's score, 12-6. The Owls continued to lead, and another 6-0 run with another four kills, McBurney ace and Comet error put the Owls at set point, 24-14. A kill by Riley Alton ended the set, 25-16.
 
The Owls kicked off set two with an early 12-1 lead following an igniting 9-0 run. The Comets scored a 6-1 run late in the set to make a small dent in the Owls' lead, but a block from Reanna Dodge and Lauren Adams put the Owls at set point, and a kill from Rhakala Blackmon ended the set with a 25-16 win.
 
Cottey took their first lead of the match early in set three, 8-7, but their own errors put the Owls back in the lead. Cottey again managed to take the lead following a 4-0 run late in the set, 19-18, challenging the Owls to a fourth set. A kill from Blackmon put the Owls up 22-21, and Kennedy Lane smacked down back-to-back kills to end the match with a 25-22 win.
