FULTON, Mo. - The William Woods University women's soccer team closed their season with a tough loss to Stephens College at the AMC Championship Quarterfinals Friday evening, 1-0.
No. 5 seed, Stephens College advanced to the semifinals and will now face No. 1 seed, Columbia College on Monday.Â
Abby Prather-Turner, Cindy Gonzalez, and Wilson Hornsby had the only shots on goal in the first period for the Owls, but they were all saved by Stephens' goalie.Â
The Owls had 13 shots on the first period while Stephens had six attempts but both teams were unable to score.Â
Lydia Sims and Sam Poehlmann were the only ones with a chance to find the back of the net during second period of regulation but Stephens' goalie was there in both tries to stop the shots.Â
Nine minutes before ending of regulation, Stephens was able to find the back of the net to take the win against the Owls and advance to the Semifinals of the AMC Championship.Â
Michyla Handley (5-5-1) was credited with the loss on goal. She played 90 minutes in between posts and stopped five shots with three coming from the second period.Â
The Owls outshot Stephens, 18-4.Â
The team concluded their season with a 7-10-2 overall record and 4-3-1 in conference play.
