FULTON, Mo. – The No. 16 William Woods University women's tennis team defeated Ottawa University Friday afternoon, 5-2. The team improves to 3-6 on the season.
The Owls grabbed the doubles point with wins on No. 1 and No. 3 courts.
In No. 1 doubles,
Ana Zavala and
Hanna Lindeboom defeated Julia Wienese and Isidora Hrnja. In No. 3 doubles,
Allison Kowalke and
Lilla Komiszar won by default as Ottawa did not have enough players.
In singles, the Owls won on No. 1, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 spots.
In No. 1 singles, Zavala defeated Wienese 6-1, 6-1. In No. 3 singles,
Marta Calvo Larraz earned a 6-2, 7-5 win over Yana Goranova. Competing in the No. 5 spot, Kowalke defeated Lily Keimig 6-2, 6-4. In the No. 6 spot,
Hannah Meyer won by default as Ottawa did not have enough players.
Next for the Owls is a road game at the No. 14 University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) on Monday, Mar. 7 at 10 a.m.
