HANNIBAL, Mo. - Returning to conference play after earning the season sweep of College of the Ozarks, William Woods (16-7, 2-3 AMC) capitalized on a cavalcade of errors Friday night en route to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-16) sweep of Hannibal-LaGrange University (4-15, 2-2 AMC).
Kassidy Phillips posted a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs, while
Federica Borsero picked up three block assists to go along with a pair of kills for WWU.
The Owls raced out to early leads in each of the first two sets - 11-3 in the first, 15-3 in the second - and kept their foot on the throttle. Woods was flawless on the attack in the second set, posting a .400 hitting percentage with 12 kills on 30 swings. And despite slipping to a .122 pace in the third (12 kills, 7 errors, 41 total attacks), WWU held the Trojans underwater for the match, with HLGU managing just one set with a positive attack percentage (.061 in the second). The Trojans wrapped the match with a -.050 hitting percentage, with 22 errors to just 17 kills on 101 swings.
Woods takes another brief foray out of conference action as they head west to take on Avila University on Monday night. First serve from Kansas City is set for 6 p.m.
