Owls Set Program Scoring Record In 111-64 Win Over Baptist Bible

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - William Woods (6-4) used a punishing first-half performance on both sides of the ball to earn its sixth win on the season in a 111-64 win over future AMC foe Baptist Bible College (3-7) on Saturday. Henry Shannon III picked up his second straight double-double (17 pts, 13 reb) and was joined by four other Owls in double figures on the night in the rout. WWU's 111 points is the most in the program's 17-year history, surpassing a 109-point output against Williams Baptist on Dec. 15, 2018.

Woods strung together several runs in the first half, opening with an 11-3 sprint over the first three minutes of the contest. DJ Purnell bookended the run, scoring the first basket of the night for the Owls on an assist by Lavel Harris, then converting a fourth-chance jumper with 16:57 on the clock.

A triple by Kyle Belgrave II at the 11:45 mark kicked off the next Owls run, a 22-1 romp that extended more than six minutes, with a three by Francis Okwuosah putting WWU up 42-13. Woods stretched out to a 56-21 lead halftime lead, with Nate Schwartze finding Ty'Shon Pannell for a three-pointer as the half ended.

Shannon III wrapped a layup and a three-pointer around a layup by Kevin Sorrell Jr., extending the Woods lead to 38 to open the half. The Owls kept Baptist Bible at arms length over the next 14 minutes before blasting past the century mark with an 11-2 run. Isaiah Smith was able to briefly stall the Owls with a pair of free throws at the 3:30 mark, but he later coughed up the turnover that gave Jared Crutcher the chance to make history with a steal and slam to pass WWU's previous high scoring mark with 1:18 left in the contest.

Woods crushed Baptist Bible in the rebounding battle, pulling down 61 (3rd-best in program history) boards to just 21 for the Patriots. The Owls bench tied the entire BBC squad, scoring 64 of WWU's 111 points on the night.

The Owls are on the road for a final non-conference tuneup on Wednesday, heading to McPherson College for a 7 p.m. tip.
