FULTON, Mo. - After ending 2023 with solid performances against NCAA Division I and II opposition, the William Woods Owls started 2024 by dominating the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans Thursday at Anderson Arena, the first men's basketball game in the redesigned court.
"We wanted to use those exhibition games to kind of to build some momentum going forward into conference," William Woods men's basketball coach
Jordan Ashton said. "I think we did a pretty good job of it. Obviously, we're still without a couple of guys that we plan to have back really soon. We're starting to get them back. But, you know, we've had a lot of guys step up too when we've been without Joey (Brown IV) and DJ (Purnell). ...hopefully, we can continue to carry over."
Opening American Midwest Conference play how it wanted, William Woods wiped out Hannibal-LaGrange 75-40.
At various points in the contest, Trojans coach Jason Durst chimed in on calls by the referees, but it didn't matter if Hannibal-LaGrange (3-7, 0-1 AMC) received fair calls or not, as William Woods (8-4, 1-0 AMC) led in all facets.
